About The Journal of Criminal Justice Research (JCJR)
The Journal of Criminal Justice Research (JCJR), is a blind, peer-reviewed scientific journal, published online, dedicated to publishing high-quality manuscripts which focus on many aspects of criminal justice and criminological research. JCJR also places an increased emphasis on field research, evaluation studies, and consulting activities. This overall general emphasis of JCJR encourages potential authors to submit their research regardless of the topic examined. In addition to national (American) based submissions, international submissions are strongly encouraged as JCJR is both a national and international publication.
In addition to publishing peer-reviewed research manuscripts, JCJR publishes book reviews, research notes, and essays, thus expanding the journals' focus. This expansion creates a well-rounded publication which provides readers with the most current scientific information in the field of criminal justice, criminology, and the social sciences as it relates to crime, criminality, and related issues.

JCJR: A Free, Online, Peer-Reviewed, Scientific Journal
The Journal of Criminal Justice Research (JCJR), a peer-reviewed scientific journal is published online, directly on this website, and is offered free of charge to readers situated throughout the world. The purpose of this is primarily to foster the free exchange and dissemination of scientific findings in the field of criminal justice, criminology, and the related social sciences as they relate to crime, criminality, and related issues. JCJR firmly believes that it is vital to ensure such scientific findings are made freely available in order to preserve the study of criminal justice and criminology as both a practice and a science.
This fact ensures that manuscripts which are published in JCJR, following successful internal and external peer-review, will receive unrestricted and unlimited access by interested readers situated throughout the world. As JCJR has elected not to work with traditional publishers, the entire publication process remains with JCJR and all publication duties are performed by JCJR.
All costs associated with providing JCJR free of charge are provided by its parent organization, The Institute for Criminal Justice Research & Consulting (ICJRC).
The journal utilizes both criminal justice and social science practitioners and world renowned academics and researchers as peer-reviewers, thus ensuring that each manuscript is thoroughly reviewed by experts in the field. Following each research manuscript submission, the paper will be briefly internally reviewed. Following this, the blind manuscript will then be sent out to at least two peer-reviewers, one expert practitioner and one researcher or academic. This practice allows each manuscript to be reviewed from two very important standpoints; the practitioner who works in the field, and the researcher or academic who practices in academia. It is critical to obtain the views from both arenas as the field of criminal justice, as a science, is dependent upon both.
It is the policy of JCJR to have first-round of peer-reviews conducted within 60 days of submission. That is, authors will be notified of the external reviewers and internal reviewer findings following this 60 day period. Findings resulting from this review process include "publish as is", "publish with changes", "revise and resubmit", and "rejection". While the ultimate decision to publish submitted manuscripts in JCJR remains with the editorial staff of JCJR, this decision is nearly entirely dependent upon both the internal and external review findings.
After the author receives notification from JCJR, it is important that manuscripts are resubmitted, if approved for resubmission, within 30 days. This quick timetable is important in order to maintain JCJR’s commitment to publish high-quality peer-reviewed manuscripts and research and disseminate this information as quickly as possible to the global scientific community.
The Publication Process of JCJR
One of the primary goals of JCJR is to publish submitted and accepted research as quickly as possible. This is vital to the field of criminal justice and criminology as research findings must be made widely available as soon as possible. Whereas many other journals often have significant waiting periods before research manuscripts are published, JCJR publishes research manuscripts very shortly after they are accepted following successful peer-review and internal review. This is due to the fact that JCJR has decided not to work with traditional publishers and performs all publication tasks internally. As such, JCJR is fully responsible for it publications.
JCJR SUBMISSIONS
All research manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Criminal Justice Research (JCJR) must be submitted, via email, to the Editor-in-Chief of JCJR, Anthony L. Sciarabba at the following address:JCJR@icjrc.org
STYLE FORMAT
The Journal of Criminal Justice Research (JCJR) performs all formatting prior to final publication. For those interested in submitting a research manuscript, please download the following PDF style sheet as it is crucial for all submissions to have particular required components. Placing your manuscript in this format ensures that all relevent information is available for both editorial staff and the blind peer-reviewers. One of the core beliefs of The Journal of Criminal Justice Research (JCJR) is to take an apolitical stance on all political issues as they relate to criminal justice topics and closely related issues, and more importantly, criminal justice research. This is due to the belief that criminal justice research should be as unbiased as possible.
While the practice of criminal justice undoubtedly entails politics, JCJR is simply concerned with the scientific aspect of criminal justice research, as both a practice and a science. This apolitical stance helps to ensure this belief and encourages a wide variety of discourse among JCJR research submissions. Simply put, JCJR is primarily concerned with publishing high-quality criminal justice research which focuses on a wide variety of criminal justice issues and making this published research both freely and widely available throughout the world.
JCJR's Outreach Commitment
With the increasing and prohibitive costs of obtaining criminal justice journals, research, and access to databases which host scientific criminal justice research, JCJR fills a critical void in bringing high-quality criminal justice research to those who do not have access to these expensive sources. Unfortunately, this includes colleges, universities, and, most importantly, many criminal justice agencies including police departments.
