The Journal of Criminal Justice Research (JCJR) Student Outreach Programs

The Journal of Criminal Justice Research (JCJR) and Student Outreach

Another core belief of The Journal of Criminal Justice Research (JCJR) is to help introduce criminal justice, social science, and other interested students, both undergraduates and graduates, to the world of criminal justice research.  Unlike other organizations, JCJR does not charge membership fees for access to JCJR research publications.

One method of student outreach by JCJR is to provide free membership to college and university student organizations and student societies, and students themselves if they do not belong to such a group.  As it is very important for students to familiarize themselves with current research in their field, and membership to a scholarly organization is always a "plus", The Journal of Criminal Justice Research (JCJR) is committed to reaching out to the next generation of scholars and practitioners in several ways:

  • The Journal of Criminal Justice Research (JCJR) will host a semi-annual student paper competition*
  • The Journal of Criminal Justice Research (JCJR) will provide a list of College and University Criminal Justice and related social science student groups and organizations on this webpage in order to promote these beneficial organizations (Organizational Membership is required for this.  Please contact JCJR in order to request the required form).
  • The Journal of Criminal Justice Research (JCJR) will offer membership to interested students, free of charge.  The benefits of membership include being notified, via email, when new research is published directly on the JCJR webpage and being part of the overall JCJR community.
* Please remember that in order to participate in the annual JCJR student paper competition, student membership, which is free of charge, is required.  Directions on how to obtain student membership is listed above on the right side of the page.

Introducing the First Student Paper Competition of the Journal of Criminal Justice Research (JCJR)
The Journal of Criminal Justice Research (JCJR) is proud to announce the establishment of its very first student paper competition.  The competition is open to any student, both undergraduate and graduate, enrolled in a college or university.  The competition is open to both domestic (American) and international students.
As student paper competitions are very popular among students, The Journal of Criminal Justice Research (JCJR) will be hosting the competition twice each year during the publication periods of JCJR (September through February and March through August).  Papers submitted for the competition will be reviewed by JCJR.
Following the review process of submitted manuscripts, a “First Place” and “Honorable Mention” will be awarded to the two (2) top papers for each category, both undergraduate and graduate, thus resulting in four (4) awards total. The award for all four (4) top papers will be the publication of each manuscript on this Student Outreach webpage of JCJR which discusses and outlines the Student paper competition, including the names of all students who participated.
Please note that while these four papers will be published on the Student Outreach webpage of JCJR, they will not be published in JCJR, unless the students wish to submit their winning manuscript for official peer review.
The names of all participating students will also be listed on this Student Outreach webpage.
The full details of the student paper competition, including the due date, can be downloaded by clicking here.  For any questions regarding the student paper competition, and for paper submissions for the competition, please feel free to contact JCJR, via email, at students@icjrc.org
Additionally, to facilitate the review process, it is highly recommended that all submissions follow the JCJR style guide template which can be downloaded by clicking here

College & University Organizations and Society Membership to JCJR

Additionally, the organization or society name will be posted to the Student Outreach webpage.  Member organizations and societies can have an internet link posted on the JCJR student page which can direct others to their website.  As JCJR is committed to working with students interested in criminal justice research, organizational and society membership to JCJR is strongly encouraged.
Faculty members or others who serve as organization or society advisers can sign up for this membership simply by emailing students@icjrc.org and submitting the completed Microsoft Word document form which is available by contacting JCJR.  Be sure to complete and save a copy of this document.  Organization and society membership is for life.  As such, Chapter Advisers or administrators must alert JCJR when student members are added or removed following graduation.
*Students who hold student memberships and who graduate from their college or university can remove themselves from their student membership status and become full JCJR members, again free of charge!  Please contact students@icjrc.org to complete this simple process.
