ICJRC Case Studies

The Institute for Criminal Justice Research & Consulting (ICJRC) - Case Studies

The Institute for Criminal Justice Research & Consulting (ICJRC) has performed numerous consultations often working side by side with entire communities, government agencies, federal law enforcement agencies, city and local law enforcement agencies, community groups, colleges, and other not-for-profit organizations.

An overview of some of the most recent activities of ICJRC are listed below, including a significant year-long evaluation of a United States Department of Justice community crime reduction initiative known as "Weed and Seed" operating in Far Rockaway, New York.

  • The Establishment of a Graduate Criminal Justice Academic Program

In 2007, the Director of The Institute for Criminal Justice Research & Consulting (ICJRC) assisted in the planning and development of a Criminal Justice Master's program at Molloy College, a private college located in Nassau County, New York.  This included the development and coding of student interest surveys regarding the program, assisting in the development of the curriculum of the graduate program, ensuring that all graduate courses met the requirements of the prestigious Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS) course content areas, working on the official application packet from the New York State Department of Higher Education, assisting in the scheduling of courses, assisting in the development of the mandatory budget for the proposed program, and finally, assisting in finalizing the application for both College and State approval.

The program was accepted by New York State and is currently one of the highest quality Master's level Criminal Justice Programs in the area.  Additionally, due to its custom development, the program is also one of the more popular Criminal Justice Graduate programs in the area.

With this first-hand prior experience, The Institute for Criminal Justice Research & Consulting (ICJRC) is proud to assist other Colleges and Universities in the development of their own undergraduate or graduate criminal justice programs.  As the field of Criminal Justice is more popular today than ever before, there is a tremendous need for Colleges and Universities to offer high-quality Criminal Justice academic programs for a growing number of interested students.  The hallmark of this service is assisting in the development of custom academic programs rather than the infamous "cookie cutter" programs.

For Colleges and Universities interested in this service provided by The Institute for Criminal Justice Research & Consulting, please feel free to contact the Director of ICJRC, Anthony Sciarabba, either by phone (516-765-1060) or by email, anytime at education@icjrc.org.  ICJRC offers very affordable rates depending on what exactly is needed.  We work with all of those involved at every step of the process, from beginning to completion, including serving as the mandatory consultant who must review the program application and make any recommendations, as per New York State Higher Education procedure.

Please remember that initial consultations are free of charge and ICJRC will visit your College or University for a formal meeting, if possible depending on location, in order to discuss the needs of the Academic Department as well as the School.

  • ICJRC's Program Evaluation of a United States Department of Justice Community Crime Reduction Program

From November 2007 to October 2008, ICJRC was selected to provide a year-long evaluation of a United States Department of Justice community crime reduction program known as “Weed and Seed” operating in Far Rockaway, New York.  This included, among other activities, an assessment and evaluation of the program and an analysis of its crime reduction capabilities and the community policies in place in the community.  The evaluation, which was funded by a grant from the U.S. Attorney’s Office (Eastern District, New York), identified both program strengths and weaknesses and was responsible for directing both future organization and funding of the program.  The significance and scope of this evaluation helped this program receive an additional year of government grant funding.  Additionally, the community and organizational questionnaires developed by ICJRC for this evaluation have been published and are widely available in order to improve similar policy evaluations.  As is consistent with ICJRC's focus on scientific research, findings from this evaluation were published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Professional Issues in Criminal Justice: A Professional Journal.

The full report submitted to the United States Department of Justice, Community Capacity Development Office (CCDO) can be downloaded here free of charge*
